Husband questioned in IT employee’s murder

Bangalore, 19 December 2010: A day after Dell Corporation staffer Payal Sureka was found brutally murdered at her J P Nagar house, the police suspect that a man in his late 20s or early 30s and who was ’’very close’’ to the victim might have committed the crime.

 

 

One person has been detained in this connection. Sources say that the way Payal was stabbed to death in her bedroom has forced the police to infer that it could be the handiwork of someone “very very close” to her.

 

Nearly half-a-dozen wounds were inflicted above her private parts; and a dozen more were found on the torso.

 

The victim was wearing a shirt and a petticoat at the time of the offence which reportedly occurred between 11 and 11:50 am. Her body was tied to the cot of her bedroom.

 

With Payal’s bedroom being the likely crime spot, sources say that the killer might have been induced to the place by the victim herself. A breakthrough is expected in the next two days.

 

Payal’s husband Anant Narayan Mishra, who arrived in the City on Saturday morning, is also under the scanner.

 

The police have not arrested him. Anant was grilled throughout the day.

 

His father was also questioned by the police. Anant, who works as a gym instructor, and his business associate recently parted ways.

 

At 7:45 pm, Payal’s father Deen Dayal Sureka, mother Kanta Devi Sureka and five other relatives arrived in the City from Bongaigaon, Assam, and went straight to the J P Nagar police station where they were questioned.

 

Pavan Sureka, Payal’s uncle, denied any marital discord between the couple. Payal and Anant were married for two and a half years.

 

According to Pavan, Anant has emerged as a suspect in the eyes of the police but many things are still unclear. “As of now, we don’t know anything for sure. We had a detailed conversation with the police officers who have taken a keen interest in solving the murder. Things should be clear soon," he told.

 

Asked if the victim’s family suspects Anant, Pavan replied in the negative. The couple lived for about eight months in Cuttack, Anant’s hometown. While Payal moved to the J P Nagar flat about a month ago, Anant came here on December 3.

 

The families of Payal and Anant were in the police station. Payal’s body has been kept in the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem, which will be performed on Monday.
