Udupi, 27 July 2023: Classical music can ensure peace of mind if sensitively heard, said Pt. Milind Chittal, senior Hindustani vocalist, here on Monday. “Music could be therapeutic for those who are affected by the ‘reckless speed’ of the modern age,” he added.
Interacting with the audiences after his concert hosted by Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS), MIC, MIT, MAHE, Pt. Chittal said, it is possible to develop ‘taste for classical music with constant listening which can help the younger generation.
Initially in his concert, Pt. Milind Chittal who happens to be the son of veteran writer Yashwant Chittal, presented Rag Shree, Rag Jaijaivanti, Surdas Bhajan, ‘Teertha Vittal, Kshetra Vittal’, Marathi Abhanga, in his sonorous voice. He was accompanied by music artists Ranga Pai on violin, Bharavi Deraje on tabla, Shashikiran on harmonium and Praveen Karadagi on tanpura.
GCPAS Head Prof Varadesh Hiregange said the courses being offered in the department primarily teach students how to be sensitive to different forms of arts including music. MAHE cultural coordination committee chairperson Dr Shobha U Kamath felicitated the music artists. Many music connoisseurs attended the concert and participated in the discussion.
