Kadur, 20 July 2010: Entire Kadur mourned and grieved over the irreversible loss- death of its popular leader K M Krishnamurthy. Shops, government offices, schools and colleges and even Kadur shandy market remained closed and Kadur wore a pensive look. While women are usually seen drawing beautiful rangolis outside their house in the morning, they opted to skip this tradition on Monday as a mark of grief.

A guard of honour was given to MLA  K M Krishnamurthy during the funeral  at Ramagundi farm near Kadur on Monday at 4 pm. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council Motamma, KPCC President R V Deshpande, MLC Y S V Datta among other state leaders offered their last tribute to the departed soul. The buses plying to Kadur from remote areas were full as people travelled to Kadur to pay tribute to Krishnamurthy.

The body which was flown from Bangalore was kept for public homage at Taluk stadium on Sunday night. Even at 2 am on Monday, crowd including women, youth and children gathered at the stadium to have a glimpse of their leader. With larger than life cut outs of KMK adorning the city, his body was taken to Ramagundi farm in a procession for cremation. After religious rituals the body of KMK was cremated in the presence of his mother Jayamma, wife Sujatha, daughter Shilpa, son Shathrughna and brother K M Kemparaju.

CM Yeddyurappa on Krishnamurthy

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said that KMK had dreams of working for the people and making Kadur a model constituency. Yeddyurappa said that since KMK climbed the ladder of success after working at the grass roots, he had complete knowledge of the region. “With KMK’s dead we have lost an exceptionally good legislator,” said CM.

With regard to illegal mining in the state CM said that the case will not be handed over to the CBI.  “BJP leaders have not been a part of illegal mining. The case will be handed over to Lokayukta Special Officer,” he said.

Siddu mourns

“He was a simple man who worked sincerely for people through out his life but he had to die with dreams unfulfilled,” said Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah. He was speaking to reporters at the venue of where the last rites of KMK was performed. Calling KMK as  his ‘best friend,’ he spoke of some friendly talks they had shared few days ago.

“I had been asking him to get his son married off since a month but he never listened to me. We had been friends for 30 years and I feel that it was because of me that he lost his opportunity to become a Minister,” he said and added that he told KMK that he would make him a minister soon but within one hour of this promise KMK passed away.

“No matter which party comes to power in the state, KMK never failed to win Kadur seat. This is the proof of his popularity. With his death, State has lost a sincere, experienced leader from backward community,” Siddaramaiah added.
