Aircraft debris clearing works begin

Mangalore, 30 June 2010: Thirty eight days after the Mangalore air crash which claimed 158 lives, the work on clearing the debris began on Tuesday evening. The work on clearing and shifting the debris from the crash site at Kenjar near Bajpe has been entrusted to Fiza group of Mangalore, while a team of experts from Air India, which arrived from Mumbai, is supervising the works. The debris will be kept at a place in the airport premises. 

 
Speaking to Media, Air India Express Station Manager Chellam Prasad said that the work on shifting the debris has begun and it may take some time as everything has to be handled carefully. The hilly terrain of the accident site and the monsoon is hampering the works, she added and said that it is difficult to give a time limit for the operation.

With the commencement of shifting of debris from the crash site, the police guarding the site ever since the illfated IX812 Air India Express crashed, have heaved a sigh of relief. The police have been guarding the site all these days in shifts.
