Udupi: The Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samiti, in association with Rotary Club Udupi-Manipal, will distribute free notebooks to 2,000 students from rural areas on June 8 at the Vaishnavi Hall in Manipal. Municipal councillor and secretary of the samiti Nityananda Volakadu told presspersons here on Friday that notebooks would be distributed to students from the first to seventh standards from rural areas such as Kudangala, Manipura, Padu Alevoor, Mudu Alevoor, Padubettu, Kajarguttu, Pernankila, Hirebettu, Kudi, Marne, Subodini Alevoor, Rajeev Nagara and Manchi. He said that the Department of Public Instruction distributed textbooks to schools to be given to students. But this year many schools were yet to receive the textbooks. He urged the department to distribute the textbooks immediately.

Former president of Rotary Club Mitra Bhandarkar and members of the samiti U. Vishwanath Shenoy, Ashok Pai, G. Krishna Nayak and Ganeshraj Saralabettu were present.
