Storehouse of goodness: Tender coconut



The scorching sun leaves us glucose and energy drained. If we happen to be outside, the quick fix for our refreshment would be an energy drink or a fizzy soda. Even the refrigerators are stocked with harmful preservative laden and artificially flavoured fruit drinks.


But when we hit the roads no one can fail to notice those unassuming tender coconuts that are piled at the shady corners of the road. Tender coconuts are a storehouse of benefits, some known and many unknown to you.


Here’s some interesting advantages of the drink.

- Lots of spices, condiments and outside food can leave your intestines little irked and lead to loose stools. Though tender coconut water does not assure to stop diarrhoea, it does serve as an excellent rehydration solution to help your body recuperate from displaced liquids.


- This is the most oft heard and repeated property of the wonder liquid. Summer or natural heat in your body can end up affecting your body system in more than one ways. Acne outbursts or heat in your body being the most common of all summer health issues. The water of the nut is supposed to bring down the heat in your body, thus cooling the over-worked system and stopping such ailments.


- The residual effects of a chicken pox or summer can leave one wishing for more than a pair of arms to facilitate scratching. Just as how it cools the body from within, it is also said to cool the skin from outside and soothe it from rashes and itches. You can dip a soft towel in this water and gently pat the irritated areas of skin with it. This treatment is effective for sun burns too.


- If there has been a wild party which had you drinking like Irish, then a hangover and a headache is bound to follow. Little known fact is that coconut water combined with a lemon’s juice can drive away the hangover. The same combination of liquid can be used for cholera patients too because of the presence of saline and albumin.


- People suffering from diarrhoea or constipation can try taking it at regular intervals. It is said to stabilise the metabolism in our body.


While aerated drinks only quench your thirst, coconut water can act as a healthier substitute that can give you added benefits. Loaded with natural sweetness and goodness this can easily steal the limelight. Next time you stop by to have drink make sure you reap all the health benefits by drinking a tender coconut.
