- With summer fast approaching, it is imperative that we keep ourselves hydrated all the time.
26 Mar 2012: Nothing satisfies your thirst than a tall glass of water. So before you reach for that can of chilled beer, here are some facts you should know about hydrating yourself.
The amount of fluids you need depends on your age, gender and level of physical activity. Remember that you will need even more fluids to stay hydrated in hot weather and when you are physically active.
You will know that you are dehydrated when you spot one or more of these instances happening:
1. You start feeling thirsty
2. Your lips and mouth dry out
3. You have a dizzying headache
4. You feel faint
5. Your urine is thick and yellow
6. Your BP falls and heart rate increases
However, those who insist that it is important to drink eight glasses of water each day might be wrong. Research shows that drinking less than eight glasses of water per day does not lead to negative health effects. The amount of water that a person needs to drink every day is different for everyone. What is most important is that you drink enough fluids to avoid dehydration. Your fluid intake can include water as well as a variety of other fluids.
