New Delhi, 16 August 2010: The Union Cabinet on Monday has deferred decision on revision of salary of Members of Parliament. Earlier, the Cabinet had decided to meet on Monday to clear the salary bill of MPs after weeks of walkouts and chaos in Parliament.

The meeting agenda included MPs’ salary bill and bio-tech regulatory authority. The salary bill has a recommendation of hiking of the salaries of MPs from the existing Rs 15,000 to Rs 50, 000. The bill also proposed a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) from from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000.

A parliamentary panel has suggested that MPs should earn higher than the existing salary. The panel has also suggested a monthly package of around Rs 80, 000.
