Mumbai, 31 July 2010: Yuvraj Singh has made a comeback to the Team India one-day squad for the forthcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka, while Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir have been rested, the BCCI announced on Saturday.
The BCCI selection committee led by Krish Srikkanth met here to pick the 15-member squad for the tri-series, featuring India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The series will be played in the island nation from August 10 to 28.
Spinner Ravichndra Ashwin and batsman Sourav Tiwary, currently in the Indian team for the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia, have also received an India call-up. Their places for the tournament down under will be taken up by Ashok Dinda and Manish Pandey. There were still concerns over the fitness of Zaheer Khan and the BCCI has decided to give him time to recover properly before India’s Test series against Australia in October.
Pacer Ishant Sharma, who has struggled on the batting-friendly pitches of Sri Lanka, has retained in place in the squad and will be joined by Ashish Nehra and Praveen Kumar. Abhimanyu Mithun, who made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at Galle, has also been named in the 15-member squad. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been retained and is expected to open the innings with Virender Sehwag, while the Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been called in to beef up the middle order.
Full squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Virender Sehwag (Vice-Captain), Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Dinesh Karthik, R Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Abhimanyu Mithun, Ashish Nehra, Pragyan Ojha, Sourav Tiwary.
