Narayan Rane’s son arrested in Goa for attack on tollbooth
Mapusa, 03 Dec 2013: Maharashtra industries minister Narayan Rane’s son Nitesh Rane and eight others have been arrested by the Goa Police after they allegedly ransacked a tollbooth near the Maharashtra-Goa border at Dhargalim, in Pernem taluka and assaulted the staff members there on Tuesday.
Sources said that they had come in three vehicles and Nitesh Rane’s vehicle had moved ahead when the incident occurred. Occupants of the other two vehicles got into an angry argument over the entry fee with the booth staff and assaulted them. They were being charged Rs 250 per vehicle. The toolbooth staff members explained to them that this is the fee stipulated by the government.
Sources said that out of the six youth manning the booth, three were beaten badly and the booth was ransacked. From there, the two vehicles sped away after committing the offence.
Following a complaint lodged at the Pernem police station, the police tracked Nitesh Rane and others in Calangute and detained them.
The situation is tense at the Pernem police station as more than 100 supporters of Rane have come from across the border.
They are angry and are questioning why Nitesh Rane has been arrested when he was not at the scene of offence.
Nitesh Rane’s PSO was in one of the two cars which were stopped for payment of toll fee.
