Udupi/M’belle,11 Nov 2013: The District Commissioner of Udupi, Dr. M.T. Reju (IAS) visited the State Level Girls NSS Camp organized by St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle on Sunday, 10 November 2013 at 6pm. On his arrival he was welcomed by Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College and Edward Larsen D’Souza-Camp Coordinator.

Addressing the NSS students, Dr. Reju said that the young students are the future of the nation. Through power-point presentation, Dr. Reju highlighted the fact that people can solve their problems if they join together. He made his point through a video-clip in which it was shown that during the rains, when a tree collapsed on the road causing inconvenience to the people and vehicles, no one comes forward and just wait for the administration to come and remove the tree. Meanwhile, a small school boy tries to push the tree all alone. Seeing his efforts, some more boys join him and eventually, other adults also join him and collectively they clear the road and solve the problem. The school boy smiles with satisfaction while others pat him for the initiative.

Elaborating on the video, Dr. Reju said that certain local problems can be solved by the people themselves by joining their hands rather than waiting for the administration to solve some of the basic problems in the villages and towns.  He asked the students not to be like individual islands by becoming slaves of social media but to have personal contact through communication which would enable them to understand the reality that exists in the society and community. He also asked them to enjoy the beauty of nature and develop those qualities which are necessary in building the nation which the motto of the state level  NSS camp.

Commodore Jerome Castelino (VSM) who was the guest of honour  said that the first educational institution of Moodubelle-the Church Aided Higher Primary School completes 100 years this year; St. Lawrence High School over 50 years, St. Lawrence PU College over 25 years; St. Lawrence English Medium High School over 10 years and St. Lawrence Degree College two years and complimented Dr. Reju for visiting Moodubelle and said that he was the first DC to visit the educational institutions in particular and Moodubelle in general.

Fr. Paul Sequeira, who presided over the programme asked the students to follow the advice given by Dr. Reju and thanked Dr. Reju for taking some time and visiting the State Level Girls NSS Camp and speaking to the students. Edward Larsen D’Souza welcomed and also proposed the vote of thanks.
