Speaking to presspersons, Superintendent of Police Dr M B Boralingayya said Radha Karkera (75) was alone in her house, when she was murdered for gain.
On the pretext of asking for water, two persons had entered the house of Karkera on July 3. After strangling her, the duo had decamped with the gold ornaments.
Annappa Poojary, a woodcutter, lived in a rented house in Nayampalli in Santhakatte.
Poojary had worked for Radha, a month ago and he knew that she was living alone and hence hatched a plan to commit the crime, SP said.
Poojary is also wanted in a 2002 theft case. Police are confident of arresting Poojary’s accomplice soon.
The police have seized 36 gram gold ornaments from Poojary.
