Udupi: 04 July 2012: Murders at lonely houses seems to be routine now a days in Dakshina Kannada District.  Recently we have heard about a murder in Malpe and two have been nabbed. Yet another shocking incident a old woman Radha Karkera (75) was mudered in her house at Ammunje near the Chamundeshwari temple Uppor. She was strangled to death with cloths. This murder too very similar to the one committed at Kemmannu of a lady called Shakuntala hardly two weeks ago as she too was strangled to death by the miscreants on 03 July at around noon time.

This was discovered when her son who lives nearby came to visit her. The reason for the murder is considered to be theft and Gold from her body such as chain, earrings and bangles are missing.  Looks like the so called robbers new the surroundings very well and had no problem at all to commit this grave murder and noon time is best when all the neighbours take a afternoon nap.  It shows very clearly that living alone and at remote places is not safe any more especially the lonely old people as the robbers take advantage of these people for theft.

"This being a remote area and no many people passing around, seemed to be the advantage for the culprits" said Ananda Poojary her neighbour, " The nearby houses to Radha’s house are closed and not many people live here " he added.

Once this incident was reported by her son the police rushed to the spot. The Assistant Commissioner of police and the Circle Inspector also visited the spot. The dog squad was immediately called to the spot and enquiry was done. The body has now been taken to the Manipal morgue and post mortem is expected to be done tomorrow.

Radha was a very hardworking and helpful lady and she survived by 5 children 2 boys and 3 girls. Taluk Panchayth member Veronica Cornelio, Panchayath president Praveen Kumar, ex Taluk Panchayth member Sanjeeva Poojary were present on the spot and monitored the situation.
