Mangalore, 08 Jul 2012: Will the controversial ’Urulu Seve’ or the ’Made Snana’ performed by devout during shasthi at the Kukke Subrahmanya temple premises (horangana) be performed this year?

The answer will probably found on Monday, where Pejawar mutt seer Vishveshateertha has called for a meeting of Malekudiyas, Hindu religious leaders, devotees and the public to find an amicable solution to this issue.

The seer has already held two rounds of talks earlier with Rashtriya Swayam Sevak ( RSS) and devotees. On Monday, those who have their view against it can also participate and air their grievances against the ritual.

’Made Snana’ is a practice of people rolling on plantain leaves used by Brahmins for meals, under the belief that it will cure them of skin ailments. The ritual is held during the Champa Shasthi fair in Subrahmanya every year for three days. This year the dates fall on December 16-18.

Sources said the seer has been told by the state government to solve the row amicably. The report of the discussion and the recommendations will be forwarded to the government after the meeting.

Last November a ’fact finding’ team of Karnataka State Hindulida Vargagala Jagrutha Vedike was beaten up black and blue by some devotees outside the temple when they tried to get facts of the ritual.

The vedike’s state president KS Shivaramu and Bangalore district president D R Vijayakumar were at the receiving end of the mob anger despite them being provided police protection by the police. The members wanted to go inside the temple to view the ritual for their ’fact finding report’ to be presented to the government.

Late Mujrai minister VS Acharya had termed the practice of ’Made Made Snana’ as innocuous and later endorsed it saying state has no business interfering with. ’personal beliefs’, which invited criticism from many quarters. Former CM DV Sadananda Gowda in March this year said that ’Made-Snana’ would be banned in two months in a suo motu statement in the Legislative Council, where Tontadarya from BJP raised a question on various temple superstitions being practiced in the State. Even Pejawar seer was of the opinion that there would be no harm from the religious point of view in the event of a ban on Made Snana.
