Udupi, 06 March 2012: Making time in between his busy state administrative work on Monday Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has travelled around Udupi district and gave speeches. The Udupi – Chickmagalur by election became inevitable upon him becoming the Chief Minister, so winning this for BJP has become not only his prestige issue but also a challenge for him, which he seems to have taken seriously.

As per the scheduled time he was supposed to participate in the BJP workers conference in Hosmaru Grama of Karkala Taluk at 9.30am. But that did not become possible as he arrived 2 hours late at 11.30am. Later he also addressed a conference in Karkala town, and from there all the programs got delayed by one or two hours than the scheduled time.

At 1.30pm he attended the meeting of party workers in Kulala Sangha of Perdur, visited Shivapadi temple of Manipal and met the party workers there and gave a speech. From there he addressed the Udupi City Tenkapete Supporters and in between he had lunch at the residence of Municipal BJP party worker Shyam Kudwa.

Later he addressed the conference of Taxi drivers – Owners in Sharada Hotel, then arrived at Kulala Sangha Sabhabhavana for the conference and spoke there, explained the achievements of his government, asked for votes. After that he went to Manipal and spoke addressing the community in Rajapura Saraswatha Brahmin’s Sabhabhavana, reminded them on the government’s grant to build the Sabhabhavana and requested for voting to BJP.

Already it was getting dark in the evening at 7.00pm. He was late for the public conference at Malpe which was scheduled at 5.00pm, he still arrived there. Though it was late people had gathered there in huge numbers, he thanked them for that and expressed his belief that all of them will vote for BJP. From there he went to Brahmavara Narayanaguru Sabhabhavana and had meeting with the party supporters, then he went straight to Kachchur Malidevi Temple where the government had given rupees 1 crore grant, he performed prayers there and then addressed the public rally.

With all these tours he met people of different communities such as Kulala, Saraswatha, Mogaveera, Dalit and tried to attract their votes. Throughout his speech he briefed on what the government has done for all these communities with figures and assured the people that he is with them.

Along with the Chief Minister; the candidate Sunil Kumar, BJP Jilla President Udayakumar Shetty, Udupi MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat, Mangalore MLA Yogish Bhat, Vidhana Parishad Member Kota Shrinivasa Poojary and many other party senior leaders were there. Wherever the Chief Minister is late to arrive, these leaders present their speeches to fill the time.

As the Chief Minister and other leaders were going around in a dozen vehicles, for their protection a dozen more police vehicles were following. He will be going around for one or two days more in Udupi – Chickmagalur, because it is a prestige question for the Chief Minister to win this election.

Well, I think it is too late to convince the people now same as he was two hours behind schedule to attend all gatherings/meetings. People have already decided whom to vote based on your achievements and developments and not merely talks and speaches at the last moments.
