Nitte: CM announces more higher education opportunities

Nitte, 19 November 2011: Speaking on the occasion of the concluding ceremony of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Nitte Engineering College on Friday, Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda announced that the state government has decided to open 20 model higher education Institutions statewide with a cost of 180 crores rupees. He said currently in our country only 12% of the students can get higher education. But the government has targeted to increase this to 25% in the state and for this purpose to have more 20 higher education Institutions the proposal has been submitted to UGC for funds. The government has decided to start the Institutions immediately, he said.

 

 

The government has also decided to start professional training Institutions so that the youths instead of waiting for government jobs can carry out self-employment. In just three and half years 470 lecturers have been appointed in the Polytechnics wherever there were shortages. The salaries of the part time lecturers have been increased from Rs. 1,800 to Rs. 7,500, said Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

On this occasion Chief Minister inaugurated the 16th Bio Fuel Information Centre at Nitte College. Upon inaugurating he said that the state is in good position in the country in producing and usage of bio fuel. Already there are 15 Bio Fuel Information Centers in the state, additional 22 centers will be started, he said.

Bio Fuel Development Board President Y.N. Ramakrishna spoke on the occasion and said that Karnataka is the first state to establish a policy and the Board, in the country. The source seeds for this fuel has been grown in 75,000 hectare land under the projects such as Hasiru honnu, Suvarna Bhumi, he said. Among the buses of Bangalore Road Transport Organization 500 buses with bio fuel and 2,500 buses with bio ethanol fuel is being successfully used, he said.
