Shirva: Carol Sonia D’Souza of Moodubelle is Voice of Udupi

Shirva, 03 Jan 2012: In the mesmerising performances by the four finalists, it was Carol Sonia D’Souza from Moodubelle in the female category and Loyson Corda from Shirva in the male category were the winners of “Voice of Udupi” in the talent hunt competition finals held in the “Yeh Shyam Mastani” a family entertaining program organized by St. Mary’s Old Students Association Shirva on Sunday 01st January 2012 in the evening at 07.00 pm in St. Mary’s Grounds Shirva.
The program began with the prayer song. Dr. Gururaj Krishnamurthy – President of St. Mary’s Old Students Association welcomed the guests, dignitaries, all the artists, judges, participants and the large audients. The whole event was wonderfully coordinated by Simon D’Souza – Former President, which had a rocking effect to the audience who saw the best of music and entertainment. The program was compeered by Uttam Menezes with his humour and professionalism and the musical program was compeered by Preetham who kept the audience active throughout the show.
It was a fantastic evening of entertainment and great music by the truly talented professional singers Joseph Devraj, Mohd Hanif, Subrat Sahoo, Shashikala, Nayana and breathtaking orchestra led by Rajagopal who arrived specially for this occasion from Bangalore. The singers ably supported by the vibrant orchestra presented the musical fiesta of Golden Era of Hindi Songs, as the round table dinner and drinks were served. The musical night also included dances from Boys Zone Academy group.
Rev. Fr. V. Mendonca, Edrian Gomes and Canute Mathias from Shirva were felicitated for their contribution and achievement in the field of music. On this occasion “Spandana” the souvenir of St. Mary’s Old Student’s Association was released. The event also included plenty of entertainment such as, Rib tickling mimicry by Imtiaz Ali and popular Kannada songs by Ravindra Prabhu a well known eminent Kannada singer. The music lovers watched the entertainment extravaganza and the a fierce competition among participants that followed.
The four finalists Carol Sonia D’Souza from Moodubelle and Murel D’Sa from Shirva in the female category, along with Loyson Corda from Shirva and Sandesh Bhat from Shirva in the male category, who were selected from the preliminary rounds held on 21st November 2011 at Saude Sabha Bhavan Shirva, for this grand finale of “Voice of Udupi” talent search. All the four talented finalists rendered their magical voices and were greeted and admired by the large audience with huge applauds.
Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonsa, Rajagopal and Ravindra Prabhu were the judges of the competition, all of whom are eminent in the field of Music. At the end it was it was Carol Sonia D’Souza from Moodubelle in the female category and Loyson Corda from Shirva in the male category were the winners of “Voice of Udupi”. To wrap-up the event, the two winners in female and male category won not only the trophy, cash prize Rs. 10,000 each, but also hundreds of hearts of the fabulous audience at the Shirva Church grounds. The runner-ups won the cash prize of Rs. 5,000 each.
Carol Sonia D’Souza an Engineering Graduate in Computer Science, is the eldest among the 2 children of Victor and Connie D’Souza of Moodubelle. Carol’s younger brother Christopher D’Souza is studying in 9th standard. Carol is the Choir member of St. Lawrence Church Moodubelle. She is fond of music from her young age and have won various prizes in Parish, Taluk, District and Inter District level competitions. Presently she is working in Bangalore.
Loyson Corda a 2nd B. Com student of St. Mary’s College Shirva, is the youngest among the 3 children of Lawrence and Sewrine Corda of Shirva. Loyson’s eldest sister Sarita Corda is in Mumbai and second sister Savita Corda is in Kuwait. Loyson is the Choir member of St. Mary’s Church Shirva. He is also the member of Spectrum Band Shirva and besides singing he plays base guitar and trumpet.
Denis Mathias – Member of St. Mary’s Old Students Association, in his vote of thanks, thanked all those who worked hard to make this event an unprecedented success, along with those who supported the event. He also thanked the Association committee, the members, the guests, dignitaries, all the artists, judges, participants and the large live audients who were cheering and supporting the artists and the participants.
