Bangalore: Live-in lover stabs actress

Bangalore, 30 November 2011: An aspiring Kannada film actress was allegedly attacked by her live-in partner at her Judicial Layout residence in the City on Tuesday.

 

Sowmya, who has acted in “Huduga Hudugi”, a comedy, was living with Anil Kumar alias Rahul (28), a dismissed DAR constable. Police said he stabbed Sowmya, suspecting fidelity.

 

Severely injured on neck, right hand, stomach and abdomen, Sowmya is battling for life at Baptist hospital. Anil, who is married to Rajani and has a child, moved in with Sowmya after they got to know each other when their lines crossed while they were speaking on mobile.

 

The two have been living in a house at Judicial Layout since 2009. Anil had moved for a divorce with his wife, and Sowmya had funded the legal proceedings, police said.

 

Things turned sour when Anil started pestering Sowmya to marry him.

 

The relationship worsened after Anil started doubting her movements, prompting Sowmya to move out of the house.

 

On Tuesday afternoon, Anil flew into a rage when he saw Sowmya talking to two of her male friends. He attacked her with a knife and stabbed her many times. She was rushed to the hospital by her friends.

 

Sowmya was administered treatment and her blood pressure and pulse rate were normal by late night, Dr Naveen Thomas of Baptist Hospital told Deccan Herald. Her condition, however, remained unstable and she had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, he added.

 

High drama

 

Alerted about the incident, police rushed to Anil’s house to arrest him. Seeing policemen approaching his house, Anil bolted the front door and warned them to stay away. He threatened that he would commit suicide by blasting the LPG cylinder at home. The police broke open a window glass pane to open the rear door to enter the house to take him into custody.

 

Anil attempted to cut his abdomen with the knife and suffered some injuries, but the policemen overpowered him and took him into custody. Anil was treated as outpatient at a hospital and the Police booked him for attempt to murder and suicide.

 

Anil was posted at Kushalnagar near Madikeri and in mid 2002, he was deputed to Yelahanka police training centre for training. Once he landed in the City, Anil did not return to Kushalnagar, forcing the department to terminate him,  a senior police officer told Deccan Herald.

 

Anil told the Yelahanka police that although he was dedicated to Sowmya, she was two-timing him with a man named Naveen.
