Annual NSS Camp of St. Lawrence PU College inaugurated at Shirva

Shirva, 08 October 2011: The Seven Days Annual NSS Camp of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle was inaugurated in St. Mary’s PU College premises, Shirva on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 3 pm.  The inauguration function was presided over by Felix Andrade, Principal of St. Mary’s PU College. The camp was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro, Correspondent  of St. Mary’s Educational Institutions. The guests on the dais included  Devdas Hebbar, President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat,  Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, A.G. D’Souza, member of the Belle Grama Panchayat and Edward Larsen D’Souza, NSS programme Officer.

The inauguration programme started with the NSS volunteers rendering the prayer song.  Joseph D’Souza, Physical Education Director and Assistant Camp Officer welcomed the guests and the NSS volunteers.

 

 

After formally inaugurating the Annual NSS  Camp, Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro expressed happiness at the Annual Camp of the NSS students of Moodubelle being held in Shirva and wished the campers well. He emphasised the fact that when one works for the others, he or she gets tremendous happiness. He quoted  the example of Mother Teresa who became world  famous by rendering service to the poorest of the poor. Besides Mother Teresa, there had been a number of other  social workers who believed in the dictum of ‘Service to mankind is the service of God.’ Fr. Tauro made an appeal to the NSS students to take full advantage of the camp.

In his address, Devdas Hebbar narrated his own experience in Annual NSS Camps and one national level camp which he had attended. He said that such camps have helped him in developing his own personality and leadership qualities. He further said that whenever there are opportunities, students should avail such facilities to advance their own positive qualities. He also pointed out that students should imbibe good qualities with the help of these camps and they should move from darkness to light and from ignorance to knowledge. One has to learn throughout his or her life. He wished well to the students in the Seven Days long annual camp.

Mrs. Ida  Gibba D’Souza  in her message to the NSS volunteers wished a good camping experience and appealed them to  develop  their leadership qualities and enhance their personality and increase their knowledge.

In his presidential speech, Felix Andrade said that the students will be experiencing a new environment away from their own homes. While they have an opportunity to be with their classmates, they will be missing the comforts of  their homes. They will have to stick to the camp routine. He pointed out that the experience in the camp will help them  in a great way in facing any kind of difficulties in futre life.

Other than the dignitaries on the dais, the inauguration programme was attended by Dr. J.C. Miranda-Principal of St. Mary’s College and lecturers-Prof. Ronald Moras and Prof. Subramanya. Raphael Aranha-Headmaster of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle was also present for the programme.

The inauguration programme was compeered by Navin Correa-Assistant Camp Officer and vote of thanks was proposed by Edward Larsen D’Souza-Camp Officer.

According to Edward Larsen D’Souza , 60 NSS volunteers are participating in the Seven Days Annual NSS Camp. During these seven days, the NSS volunteers will be following the camp routine which include moring prayers, NSS flag hoisting, exercise, social work, informative lectures from eminent persons from different fields, games and sports, cultural activities, etc.
