Moodubelle, 02 october 2011: Dr. Mohammed Rafiq, Managing Director of Thonse Health Centre, speaking as the resource person at the meeting of the Lions Club of Moodubelle on Saturday, October 1, 2011, said that most of the diseases and ailments of modern times are greatly due to the change in lifestyle. With money one can buy medicines and hospital facilities, but cannot purchase health.

Speaking about the extent of diseases in India, Dr. Rafik said that India is leading in major diseases such as heart ailments, diabetes and cancer. He also pointed out that due to the excessive use of cell phones within 20 years the number India may also lead in Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Rafiq said that in the case of health management, most of the people take medicines or run to the hospitals once they become victims of diseases. They do not realise the importance of the prevention of disease by developing immunity or resistance to diseases in the body by following certain disciplines such as balanced diet, exercise and keeping mental balance.

Pointing out the chief causes of the diseases, Dr. Rafik listed food habits, pollution and stress as the three roots of various diseases. The food and snacks that we consume consists of  nearly seventy percent of chemicals. Due to the pollution of the environment people fall victims to various types of ailments as asthma and allergies.  Tension and stress are responsible for 50 to 60 percent of the diseases.
