Udupi/M’Belle: Sixty ninth Independence Day celebrated with fervour and patriotism

Udupi/M’Belle, 16 Aug 2015: Sixty ninth Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour and patriotism in different parts of the country. Government and educational institutions observed the independence day by unfurling or hoisting the national flag, singing patriotic songs and national anthems. In educational institutions, students presented cultural programmes and delivered speeches highlighting the history and importance of the Independence Day.

 

St. Lawrence Church:


Soon after 7.30 am festal  mass of the Assumption of Our Lady, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas hoisted the national flag in front of the portico of the church in the presence of parishioners who had attended the mass. The flag hoisting function was organized by the ICYM Unit. Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Alphonse Alva, ICYM animators-Vincent Fernandes, Joseph Martis, Mrs. Rovita Fernandes, President-Nevil D’Souza and other ICYM members.

 

Following the hoisting of the national flag, the ICYM members sang the national anthem and flag song.

 

Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas in his independence day message asked the people to respect our motherland and contribute to the nation building as responsible citizens.

 

The ICYM also observed ‘Vanamahotsava’ by planting a neem sapling near the Grotto. Fr. Clement symbolically planted the sapling  in the pit.

 

Lloyd Rebello compeered the programme. Sweets were distributed to all the parishioners who were present for the independence day celebration.

 

 

Church Aided Higher Primary School:


Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions Moodubelle hoisted the national flag in the presence of Higher primary School students and teachers. The Final Year BCom students of St. Lawrence College and staff also participated in the flag hoisting ceremony.

 

Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas delivered the Independence day message.

 

Prizes were distributed to the students who had competed in various games organized by the school.

 

Trophies, certificates and prizes were also given to the girls volleyball team which had topped the position in the Hiriyadka Zone and boys volleyball team that had secured second position.

 

The Independence day celebrations in the higher primary school was sponsored by Canara Bank, Moodubelle.

 

 

St. Lawrence English Medium High School:


Commodore Jerome Castelino was the chief guest for the independence day celebrations at St. Lawrence English Medium High School.

 

Prior to the flag hoisting, the chief guest Commodore Jerome Castelino, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Headmistress Mrs. Veera Fernandes were taken in procession by the students to the school ground accompanied by the band. The students  presented march past led by the SPL Karthik Shetty.

 

Following the flag hoisting, Commodore Jerome Castelino in his independence day message said that it is not enough to hoist the flag on two days, that is, on 15 August and 26 January to commemorate independence day and Republic day respectively and proclaim the love of the nation but to love the motherland every day of the year and manifest our patriotism by our exemplary deeds. Commodore Jerome Castelino appreciated the discipline and smartness of the students during the march past.

Following the flag hoisting ceremony, the students presented cultural programme in the parish hall.

 

 

St. Lawrence PU College:


Independence day was celebrated jointly by St. Lawrence PU College and Kannada Medium High School. Alphonse K. Alva-Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council was the chief guest who hoisted the national flag and delivered the Independence day message.

 

Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Leena D’Silva-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and other staff members were present.

 

 

 

Milk Producers Cooperative:


Dr. H.B. Shetty-President of Milk Producers Cooperative Society, Moodubelle hoisted the national flag in the premises of the society. Ravi Kumar-Secretary and some other members were present on this occasion.
