Bantwal, 14 Aug 2014: It has sixty-seven years that our nation got freedom from imperial rulers and we boast about the nation is surging on progressive path.  Meanwhile, one wonders, on the real meaning of progress; when there are over hundred households in a village that has no electricity supply.

Its the miserable tale of Parenki and Kukkala remote villages that come under the limits of Punjalkatte, lies on the boundary between Bantwal and Beltangady taluks.  Despite several decades have elapsed since the independence, several households in both these villages still depend on kerosene lamps.  As per the survey, 178 BPL families in Parenki and Kukkala villages that come under Madantyar gram panchayat have no electricity connection at their households.  In spite of the families have submitted their applications to officers of state-owned public utility supplier, to provide electricity connection under Rajeev Gandhi Electrification Project, nothing has done in concrete terms.

The state-owned energy supplier has given electricity connections to households in the neighbouring villages under Rajeev Gandhi Electrification Project; the families of Parenki and Kukkala are still spending their nights with kerosene lamps.  Its tragic that in democratic nation, there are none to address the grievances of their own people.

If it’s a remote village without any roads and are situated on hilly regions, then it would have been difficult to provide them with electricity connection.  Both these villages have basic amenities, but they are deprived of electricity. The families still have hope that concerned department will address their basic need of electricity.

Peoples’ representatives unresponsive

No government official has ever come to their villages despite several decades of gaining independence.  The politicians only descend at their villages only during election campaigning and offer tall assurances.  They would not be traced later.  The villagers hope the local MLA and district in charge minister to take note of their plight and instruct the officers to do the needful at the earliest.

India shining

We see slogans such as India shining; the state is surging in progressive path.  The taluk panchayat provides basic amenities and the villages are truly become Rama Rajya.  Meanwhile, the peoples representatives and government officials had to visit the villages whether their need for basic facilities are fulfilled or not.

No Television

The people in these villages are not fortunate to view TV, and their children study in the light of kerosene lamps.
