Mangaluru: Amtur bids tearful adieu to Prabha Arun Kumar

Bantwal, 15 Mar 2015: Hundreds of people, including family members, relatives, villagers and ministers, on Sunday paid homage to Prabha Arun Kumar, the Indian software engineer who was murdered in Australia on March 7. The last rites were held at Prabha’s village Amtur here on Sunday evening.
The body of Prabha (41) from global IT consulting firm Mindtree was flown to Bengaluru on Saturday, March 14 night. It was kept at her relative’s house for people to pay their respects. The cortege was then flown to Mangaluru by an air ambulance on March 15.
Prabha’s husband Arun Kumar and her elder brother Shankar Shetty accompanied the cortege from Sydney via Singapore. Along with husband Prabha also leaves behind a nine-year-old daughter, Meghana.
Health minister U T Khader, District incharge Minister Ramanath Rai, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MLA Shakunthala Shetty, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, former minister Nagaraj Shetty, former MLA Rukmayya Poojary, Padmanabh Kottary were among the prominent persons who paid last respects to Prabha.
Prabha, sent to Australia on a three-year deputation by MindTree company, was stabbed to death by an unidentified assailant while walking towards her home in Sydney at around 9.30 pm on March 7. She was talking with her husband over phone when the fatal attack took place.
Karnataka Home Minister K J George, Union Ministers and BJP leaders H N Ananthkumar and D V Sadananda Gowda were among those who paid their tributes to Prabha when her body was kept at her relative’s house in Bengaluru this morning.
"This is a very unfortunate incident. Our External Affairs Ministry has already taken up this issue with the Australian government. We are confident they will take all the cautionary measures," George said.
Prabha was the daughter of progressive farmer Mahabala Shetty and Sarojini, residents of Amtoor. She had her initial education from Mangaluru and Sullia. She married Arun Kumar 12 years ago and their daughter Meghana stays with her father in Bengaluru.
She was scheduled to return home in April this year.
