Kuwait, 07 November 2010: The Agnesian Alumnae Kuwait (AAK) celebrated the completion of five years of its existence with “The Fifth Spark” at the Indian Community School, Salmiya Kuwait on Friday November 5. A ray kindled in the mind of a true Agensian, a dynamic, young and energetic Diany Cutinho way back in the year 2005 has now completed its five fruitful years with the support of its founder and management committee members.

The journey has now been carried forward with the same zeal by Reema Lasrado, an equally capable and dedicated person. AAK was formed with the dual motto of providing financial support for the education of deserving students of their alma mater and to create a platform to bring out the hidden talents of its members and exhibit them through various activities organized by the association. A few of the activities are the Charity Bazaar, Santa’s treat, Joyeux Navidad 2006 and 2007, celebration of the 60th year of Indian Independence, food festival, throw ball tournament, creation and recreation with crochet, Santa’s sleigh and Tip-Tap-Toe dance workshop.

The programme commenced at 5.30 pm with a prayer song led by the magnificent voice of Wanisha D’Souza and group, with dance by the kids of ex-Agnesians with diyas. Reema Lasrado, president of AAK officially welcomed the gathering and thanked the management committee members, Dr Sr Marie Prem and Sr Maria Lytta, who were the chief guests of the evening. She announced that over the past five years AAK has been able to successfully support the education of more than 20 students.

Annet Castelino, secretary of AAK read of the annual report and gave a brief introduction of Dr Sr Marie Prem, principal of St Agnes college who flew all the way from Mangalore to be a part of this event, and Sr Maria Lytta, principal of Carmel School, Kuwait.

Reema Lasrado and Diana D’Souza handed over a cheque to Dr Sr Marie Prem. The compere Annet Castelino then called the founder members Diany Cutinho, Jackie Alphonso, Felcita D’Souza, Ivy Sequeria, Kavitha D’Souza, Maizy D’Souza, Crystal Noronha, Letitia D’Costa, Babitha Sequeira, Anita Lewis, Jovita D’Souza, Sarina Lewis, Olivia Pinto, Leena Fernandes and Anita Fernandes to the stage for the college anthem and to cut the anniversary cake. A souvenir was released by Dr Sr Marie Prem to mark the event.

Dr Sr Marie Prem in her address thanked the Agensian alumnae in Kuwait for taking the time in helping the lesser privileged women of the alma mater back in Mangalore. Annet then read out the letter from Sr Olivia.

As the entire event was focussed on women, Eve-Olution, a dance-drama by Jovas XLNC was a fitting performance which depicted the five stages of a woman’s life, the challenges and dynamism, accompanied by lighting effects and sound. Foot-tapping dances were performed by the well-known dance schools Ballerines and D’illusions. Dances were also performed by the members and their kids.

The sponsors and co-sponsors of the event were felicitated with mementos. The children of ex-Agnesians who secured distinctions in the 10th and 12th standards were presented with awards for excellence and prizes were distributed for the competitions held on October 29.

Diana D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Delicious food was served to all. The well-organized and entertaining programme came to an end with a dance session and spot prizes. The event was ably compered by Annet Castelino and Lolita Fronteiro. The music was provided by Kiran and sound and lights by Anand D’Souza of Illuminations.
