Akash Shetty of Mangalore Wins Doodle4Goole Contest

Mangalore, 13 November 2013: Culminating the fifth edition of Doodle4Google (D4G) contest, Google India has announced Mangalore’s Akash Shetty as the winner of this year’s Google Doodle for the category of class VII-X.
Akash Shetty of St Aloysius High School, Mangalore designed a doodle showcasing the contributions of Indian women. About his D4G titled "Indian Women Leading Our Country’’ Akash writes: It is not always that men make history, women do that to. Nobody can forget the contributions of women like Indira Gandhi, Rani Laxmi bai, Kalpana Chawla, Mery Kom, Saina Nehwal. These women have contributed to make our country proud.’’

The national winning Doodle titled "Sky’s The Limit for Indian Women’’ by Gayatri Ketharaman from Bishop’s Co-Ed School, Pune will go live on the Google (India) homepage on November 14, Children’s Day and reflects the artistic merit, creativity, and expression of the theme. All the finalists will receive a Google Goodie bag and an Acer C720 Chromebook.
In Category 1 (Class I- III), Madhuram Vatsal from St. Francis’s College, Lucknow was the winner with the D4G titled "Celebrating Indian Women’’ and in Category 2 (ClassIV-VI) Binita Biswajeeta, from D.A.V Public School, Balasore, Odissa was the winner with D4G titled ’ Women Are Future’.
The Doodle4Google competition, an annual Google India property, was launched in 2009 and is open to students from grades I to X, who are invited to design the Google Doodle to celebrate Children’s Day in the country. The theme for this year’s competition was ’Celebrating Indian Women’, and Google received over 1.5 lakh entries, from more than 1,500 schools across 100 cities.
