Bengaluru: Columbia Asia Hospital surgeons perform Live Knee replacement surgery

Bengaluru, 06 Feb: Live Total Knee Arthroplasty surgery was performed at Columbia Asia Hospital, Hebbal, here on Tuesday, February 5, in association with Karnataka Orthopedic Association. The live surgery was performed using latest minimally invasive techniques, implants and recent advancements in the field of joint replacement.
Dr Ravi Kelkar is one of the veteran doctors in the field of Orthopedics, who has performed more than 4,000 knee replacement surgeries co-ordinated the programme. The surgery was performed between 9:30am and 11:30am. Post the surgery ‘hands on saw bone workshop’ was conducted, where the delegates performed on the prototypes and experienced the Total Knee arthroplasty surgery. The workshop also consisted of Live surgery and lecture sessions on topic related to Total Knee Arthroplasty from eminent faculties.
Over 2,000 delegates from India and overseas attended the event to understand the latest trends in the field of orthopedics. This live knee replacement surgery was designed to deliver enhance education on Total Knee Arthroplasty which will help orthopaedic surgeons to improve their skills and also help to clear myths about this procedure.
‘Knee replacement surgeries are very beneficial for patients who are suffering from chronic knee problems. The surgery helps patients return to their active lifestyle soon. We have performed the surgery live, so that it helps in providing an educative experience to the medical students,’ said Dr Ravi Kelkar, consultant orthopedics, Columbia Asia Hospital Hebbal.
