Mangaluru: Uro surgeons attend live robotic radical prostatectomy at Yenepoya Med College

Mangaluru, 02 Apr 2017: Yenepoya College, department of Urology, robotic and renal transplantation, in collaboration with Karnataka Urology Association, organized Continuing Medical Education (CME) cum Live operative workshop at Auditorium, EMD Building, 8th floor, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital (YMCH), Deralakatte, here, recently.
YMCH urology Professor Dr Mujibur delivered the preliminaries on Robotics past, present and future.
Dr P Venugopal, Professor Emeritus, former HOD of urology KMC, Manipal as chief guest. Yenepoya Medical College dean Dr Gulam Jeelani Qadiri presided the programme.
Dr Shivlingaiah, president of Karnataka Urology Association stressed on the need for more such workshops for the benefit of postgraduates and consultants.
The organizing president Dr E Sulaiman, vice president Dr Mujibur Rehman, secretary Dr Altaf Khan and treasurer Dr Nischith D’Souza were present.
Dr M Vijayakumar, vice chancellor of Yenepoya University expressed his views on Robotic surgery. Dr Altaf Khan proposed vote of thanks.
Dr T B Yuvaraja, consultant, surgical oncology (uro oncology), Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, Mumbai gave a talk on, ‘Patient positioning, Port placement and Docking for pelvic surgeries’ and ‘New generation of surgical robot: Bright future ahead.’ He also performed live robotic radical prostatectomy.
Dr Gagan Gautam, head-urologic oncology and robotic surgery, Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, gave a talk on ‘Robotic Instrumentation,’ performed live robotic partial nephrectomy surgery.
Surya Prakash Ojha gave a talk on ‘Role of bed side assistant.’ Dr Amlesh Seth, Professor of Urology AIIMS gave a lecture on, ‘Problems and limitation of Robotic Surgery.’
The program was attended by around 150 consultants and post graduates in urology, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics from various medical colleges in Mumbai, Mangalore, Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Huballi, Chickmagalur, Bellary, Belagavi and Manipal.
Master class on Robotic Surgery was conducted by Dr Kaarthick Damodaran which was attended and fruitfully utilized by as many as 70 delegates.
Delegates also got a chance to try their hands on Robotix Simulator by Symbionix which was placed for demonstration first time in India by Vishal Surgicals.
