Karkala: Accused in illegal storage of explosives arrested by police

 

Karkala, 23 Oct 2015: Police have arrested Biju TK, the accused in illegal storage of ammonium nitrate at a private property at Durga Tellaru near here.

 

On Wednesday, October 21 Police team led by Karkala ASP Dr. Sumana raided a land in Durga Tellaru where huge amount of Ammonium nitrate, an ingredient used in explosives, was stored illegally.

 

 

Police seized around 150 bags of ammonium nitrate and the value of the item was estimated at Rs. Three lakh. It is said that the land was belonged to Wilson, a native of Kerala. Person named Biju Thomas, hailing from Kerala had reportedly bought the land for lease a few months ago. 

 

In 2007 then ASP Laburam, in a similar operation had seized huge amount of explosives from Ajekar. In 2011 Kerala police arrived to Karkala and had arrested Biju and took him to Kerala. 

 

In 2014, March, then ASP, now serving as Udupi district Superintendant of police Annamalai raided a spot in Nakre Varnabettu and seized ammonium nitrate in large quantity. The accused was Biju Thomas again. That time also He was arrested and sent behind the bars.
