Mumbai: Armed Forces participate in International Yoga Day

Mumbai, 22 June 2015: Indian Armed Forces and NCC based in Mumbai whole heartedly participated in the International Day of Yoga today. Personnel from units, ships and establishments participated in Yoga and used this opportunity to learn the skill and understand its benefits. In view of inclement weather the venues were shifted to covered sheds, gymnasiums, hangars and parking.
NCC Directorate Maharashtra fielded cadets of this directorate in performing yoga as per a common protocol issued by Ministry of AYUSH at 244 venues spread over the entire state, between 7 am to 7.35 am. Nationwide, NCC strived to endorse this achievement in the Limca Book of Records for a ‘Largest Yoga Performance simultaneously by a uniformed youth organization’. Major General Subodh Kumar, Additional Director General, NCC, Maharashtra addressed the Cadets on INS Viraat and participated with the NCC contingent at Army Station Workshop, Mumbai.
Yoga camps and workouts were organized at various places under the Western Naval Command, which includes Karwar, Goa, units based at Gujarat and Karanja. Indian Navy addition to ships, yoga workshop and workout were conducted by certified Patanjali Yog Samiti instructors at South Mumbai at six places for forces under Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy.
Army, lead by, Lt Gen R R Nimbhorkar, General Officer Commanding HQ MG & G Area, and Brigadier Brij Gopal, Station Commander, Mumbai Station will participate in the event at Station Workshop, Mumbai.
Sports, adventure and physical fitness and armed forces are inseparable. The Indian armed forces, has over the years, assimilated yoga into their physical fitness regimen especially for units deployed in Extreme High Altitude Areas, workout in confines of ships and many postures (Aasana) form a part of the outdoor exercises which are conducted on a daily basis.
