M’lore : A Five Year Old Boy’s Leg Saved from Amputation

M’lore, Jul 17, 2014 : In a freak accident a five year old boy Raman (name changed) from Hassan sustained a run over injury over his right leg by a tractor while he was playing in the field. He sustained a crush and degloving injury of the right ankle and foot with loss of soft tissue and disorganized bone and blood supply to foot was impaired .The patient was referred to hand & microsurgery unit headed by Dr Latheesh in Father Muller medical College.
The patient was taken up for surgery and the wound was cleaned, fractures stabilized and the soft tissue loss was covered by advanced microsurgical technique of transferring a viable muscle from the shoulder region to the leg called as free flap technique. The surgery was a success and patient is recovering from the injury.
