Heavy downpour, potholes disrupt traffic in Mumbai

Mumbai, 16 Jul 2014: Heavy downpour on Tuesday and Wednesday morning led to traffic snarls at several areas of Mumbai. The traffic on the arterial Western Express Highway (WEH) was disrupted as heavy rainfall battered the city. Potholes that appeared due to the constant downpour and poor visibility due to the rains, further slowed down vehicular movement on the highway.

 

 

Traffic was worst affected on the stretch between Dindoshi flyover and TOI junction flyover between Malad and Kandivali. Over a kilometre long traffic jam, which started in the morning was witnessed till afternoon on the stretch due to the potholes that appeared all over the flyover.

Traffic jam on Eastern Freeway

The Eastern freeway, which connects the suburbs to south Mumbai, witnessed traffic snarls during the morning peak hours, inconveniencing several office goers. A tempo heading towards south Mumbai lost control and hit the divider near Sewri leading to major traffic snarl on the southbound stretch of the freeway between Wadala and Sewri.

 

According to the traffic police officials, the driver lost control of the vehicle and swerved on the diver and a car coming from behind hit the tempo. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

 

The tempo was pulled out of and moved to the side of the road and the traffic is now back to normal, he added.
