Mangalore, Jun 26, 2014 : Round Table Mangalore and Ladies Circle Mangalore will be introducing an entirely new concept of inclusive and engaging quizzing called ‘Inspired Quizzing” for high school students here at Sudhindra Hall, Canara Girls High School, Dongarkeri here onSaturday June 28 at 2.00pm.

The distinctiveness of this quiz is that it will involve special children and other children in a very unique way. Every team is made up of one participant who is visually impaired, one participant who is speech and hearing impaired one student from a public (government school) and two students from a private school. While the focus of any quiz is on general knowledge, this quiz will instill a sense of inclusivity in children while developing a cohesive culture of team effort and joint involvement forgetting all natural barriers and impediments.

In line with Round Table and Ladies Circle’s commitment to the specially-abled, the quiz will have two main objectives, to educate the public about how the capabilities of such children are no different from other children provided the environment is inclusive and sensitize young children about natural barriers and making them more comfortable to deal with special children eliminating any hesitation on their part to deal with differently-abled people in the future.

The date of the quiz holds special significance as it is also a commemoration of Helen Keller day. Helen Keller was an American author and political activist who overcame her inability to see, hear and speak and earned a bachelor’s degree in arts.

Dr Vishwas K Pai, senior resident, department of ENT working with A J Hospital who is also the president of the Mangalore Quizzing Foundation will be the quiz master. The participants from the visually impaired category will be from Roman and Catherine school for the visually challenged whose principal Calistus D’Sa will be present. The participants from the hearing and speech impaired category will be from the SDM Mangala Jyothi Institute of Integrated Learning, Vamanjoor whose administrative officer Ganesh Bhat will also be present.
