The passenger fare is increased by 14.2 percent while the freight charges have gone up by 6.5 percent effective from June 25, 2014.
It is notable that the rail budget is likely to be presented in the second week of July.
The Railways Minister Sadanand Gowda has already been giving indications about the fare hike.
The Railway Board had already proposed 14.2 percent and 6.5 percent hike in passenger fare and freight fare respectively.
The discussion about fare hike has been going on between Sadanand Gowda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from a few days. Recently in Goa, Modi had said that some strong decisions are likely to be made soon. This may be one of those decisions by BJP government.

The easiest way to grow GDP is increase prices of government services. UPA government knew this simple economic principle but they chose to keep growth low and keep the government treasury empty by keeping train fares lower. People did not like it, as shown by their vote. I welcome GDP growth over my happiness. To enjoy happiness, one must go to Bhutan, where PM Modi gave a speech how gross national happiness is better than gross domestic product. | |

Railway fair hike, before the budget is uncalld for. The NDA had done similar blunders in hiking Petroleum prices out side the budget and when UPA followed it were making loud noise. They know to make noise! NO being in power indulge in unfair practices and say that they would control prices and now prices are being increased by the Government itself. Double standard and double talk. Mr Naidu, Susma swaraj, Javadekar, Jaitely and even DVS Gowda forget thier loud noises and now they are the heros in price hike. They have no shame, self respect and dignity? The price could be in the coming budget effective from October 2014, the routine half year change of timetable? Indians are put to suffer due this double standard and double talk leaders. |
