Udupi: Vishwasadamane reunites family of prodigal son from Pune after 5 years

Udupi, Jun 7, 2014 : Vishwasadamane – orphanage chief functionary Pastor Sunil and his staff rescued a mentally unsound destitute twenty-six-year-old Subash who was scavenging on leftover food in the neighbourhood of Katpady, here on March 25 2009. The staff gave Subash a haircut, bathed and wore him a freshly-ironed clothes. He used to make mess on his clothes and would ask for only food when hungry; otherwise he has never uttered any words.
Subash was diagnosed as mentally ill and the treatment began for a few years. There has been significant improvement in his health condition as the result of continued medication. He revealed his name as Subash and his mother tongue Marathi, nothing more. He began to work as helper to mason at Vishwasadamane and was trained in other gainful tasks. He gradually got his memory back and gave his address. He is the son of Babasaheb Bahusaheb Jadav and Sidhubai Babasaheb couple. The couple has 2 sons, eldest being Tukaram was studying in HSC.
Vishwasadamane wrote a letter to Subash’s parents on March 28 2014 which reached them after 2 months. The family called Vishwasadamane and was overjoyed to know their son is living. Babasaheb accompanied by his brother-in-law arrived at Vishwasamane to take Subash back to their home. They reached Vishwasadamane here on Friday June 6 and took away Subash with gratitude to the authorities of Vishwasadamane.
Background
Subash became mentally ill when he was studying in Class VII and was under medication from Eroda Psychiatric Hospital. Its owing to irregular consuming of medication, he did not recover fully from his illness and one fine day he went missing that is almost 9 years ago. They lodged complaint at the local police station and continued to search in and around Pune town but all in vain. Subash’s mother was in constant worry since he went missing, said Babasaheb.

The headline of this news item is not correct. The word "PRODIGAL" means : Rashly or wastefully extravagant. Giving or given in abundance; lavish or profuse (adjective). One who is given to wasteful luxury or extravagance (noun). Here "LOST" would be appropriate word to use. Vishwasada Mane is doing a worderful job. It should be an eye opener to those who cry foul about these kind of charitable institutions and accuse them of "coversions". |
