Udupi: Fr. Roshan DSouza warmly welcomed as the new Assistant Parish Priest of Belle parish

Udupi/M’belle, 01 June 2014: The long felt need to have a full-fledged Assistant Parish Priest for St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle was fulfilled on Sunday, 1 June 2014 when Fr. Roshan D’Souza who had been serving as the Assistant Parish Priest in Kulshekar, Mangalore was accorded a warm welcome by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest of Moodubelle other resident priests-Fr. Paul Sequeira, Fr. Reginald Pinto and Fr. P. Raj along with Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council-Alphonse K. Alva and other parishioners of Moodubelle.

 

Fr. Roshan D’Souza was accompanied by the Parish Priest of Kulshekar- Rev. Fr. Valerian Pinto and other priests-Fr. John Moras, Fr. Anil Lobo and Fr. Vishal Monis, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council-Pravin Patrao and Secretary -Michael D’Souza and nearly 180 parishioners who arrived in two large buses and private vehicles.

 

 

At the portico of the church, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes and Vice President Alphonse K. Alva formally welcomed Fr. Roshan D’Souza by offering him Jasmine garlands and customary embrace. Thereafter, the priests and parishioners of Kulshekar along with those of Moodubelle entered the church where a short prayer service was organized.

 

In a brief stage programme, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes welcomed Fr. Roshan D’Souza, other priests and parishioners from Kulshekar as well as those of Moodubelle who had come to see off and receive Fr. Roshan D’Souza respectively. During his brief welcome address, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes narrated the background of deputation of Fr. Roshan as the Assistant Parish Priest to Moodubelle.  He said that though there were four priests in the church including himself, three of them were resident priests with responsibilities in the PU College, English Medium High School and Bishop’s House. Hence, there was a great need to have a full-fledged Assistant Parish Priests to fulfill the spiritual and social needs of the large parish with over 700 families.

 

In his farewell message, Rev. Fr. Valerian Pinto highlighted the finer qualities of Fr. Roshan D’Souza describing him as a simple and devout priest. He thanked Fr. Roshan for his service in the Kulshekar Parish for two years.

 

In his reply to the welcome and farewell, Fr. Roshan D’Souza thanked Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, other priests and parishioners of Moodubelle for the warm welcome accorded to him and said that he would try his best to serve the people of Moodubelle. He expressed his gratitude to Rev. Fr. Valerian Pinto for looking after him with care and affection during two years of his service in the Kulshekar Parish. He also thanked the parishioners of Kulshekar for their affection as they had come in large numbers to bid him goodbye.

 

 

Mrs. Emilia Noronha, Secretary of the Parish pastoral Council proposed the vote of thanks and Fr. Paul Sequeira compeered the entire welcome programme.

 

After the brief stage programme, Fr. Roshan D’Souza was greeted by Kulshekar Parishioners  as well as Moodubelle parishioners, some of them offering flower bouquets.

 

Born on 2 February 1982 at Anjelore, Mangalore, Fr. Roshan D’Souza  had his primary education at Anjelore and high school  learning at Udyavar. He acquired B.Com degree from PPC College, Udupi. Having felt that he had divine vocation, Fr. Roshan joined St. Joseph’s Seminary at Jeppu, Mangalore in 2002 and was ordained in 2010. His first assignment was at the Rosario Cathedral, Mangalore as an Assistant Parish Priest where he served for two years from 2010-2012. Thereafter, he was transferred to Kulshekar  where he completed two years.  Moodubelle is his third assignment under the newly formed Diocese of Udupi.
