Udupi: Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo ordains two deacons at Shirva Parish

Udupi, 09 May 2014: Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of newly-formed Udupi diocese ordained 2 deacons during the ordination ceremony held at Our Lady of Health parish, Shirva, near here on Thursday May 8 morning.  It’s the second such ordination held in the diocese since Bishop Dr Lobo took over as first bishop of Udupi diocese.

 

The deacon Gerald Sandeep D’Mello, is the eldest son of Everest and Maria D’Mello couple, parishioners of St John the Evangelist parish, Shankarapura and deacon Rolvin Joy Aranha is the youngest son of Ignatius and Irene Aranha, parishioners of Our Lady Perpetual Succor parish, Kalattur, near were ordained as priests by Bishop Dr Lobo here on Thursday morning.  Both Shankarapura and Kalattur parishes come under the limits of Shirva deanery.

 

Bishop Dr Lobo in his homily highlighted the importance and role of a priest in view of God. Priest is the mediator between God and man. He is the one Chosen by God from among the people to serve the people and God. Priest’s life should be like Jesus. He also said that God chose humble person to be His messengers on Earth, said Bishop Dr Lobo.

 

Bishop Dr Lobo concelebrated Holy Mass along with newly-ordained priests and other clergies diocesan chancellor Fr Valerian Mendonca, Episcopal vicar Fr Roshan D’Souza, diocesan PRO Fr Denis D’Sa, judicial vicar Fr John Mendonca, laity director Fr Ferdinend Gonsalves, youth director Fr Edwin D’Souza, Kundapur deanery vicar Fr Anil D’Souza, Shirva deanery vicar Fr Stany Tauro, Jeppu – St Joseph’s seminary rector Fr Joseph Martis.

 

 

The diocesan biblical and catechetical Centre director Capuchin Fr Chetan Lobo conducted the liturgical service.

 

After the Eucharistic mass brief felicitation program held which presided by the Bishop.

 

Bishop Dr Lobo presided the brief felicitation programme held soon after the Eucharistic Celebration.

 

Fr Joseph Martis and Shirva parish priest Fr Stany Tauro present on the dais.

 

Fr Tauro introduced newly-ordained priests and congratulated them.

 

Shirva parish council president Wilson D’Souza and secretary William Machado welcomed Bishop Dr Lobo with flower bouquet.

 

Fr Gerald D’Mello expressed gratitude to all concerned on behalf of newly-ordained priests.

 

Bishop Dr Lobo thanked parents of newly-ordained priests for their sacrifice in service the God.  He also urged the Catholic families to allow their children to pursue divine call to become religious priests and nuns.

 

Fr Chetan Lobo compered the programme.

 

It may be recalled that the first deacon of newly-formed Udupi diocese was ordained at Moodubelle parish, near here during 2013 and it was the second ordination of 2 more deacons held at Shirva parish on Thursday.
