Mangalore: UDAAN 2014 officially inaugurated @ Father Muller School & College of Nursing

Mangalore, 08 May 2014: The International Nursing Day falls on 12th May 2014.  In January 1974, 12 May was chosen to celebrate the day as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing. Each year, ICN prepares and distributes the International Nurses’ Day Kit. The kit contains educational and public information materials, for use by nurses everywhere. In 1999 the British public sector union UNISON voted to ask the ICN to transfer this day to another date, saying Nightingale does not represent modern nursing. As of 1998, 8 May was designated as annual National Student Nurses’ Day. As of 2003, the Wednesday within National Nurses Week, between 6 and 12 May, is National School Nurse Day.

 

However, at Father Mullar Hospital does recognizes the special day as it trains hundreds of nurses every year to serve at its hospital and many other hospitals in India and abroad to serve with dedication and love of patients.  Every year Father Mullar College of nursing organizes cultural programs and various competitions to commemorate the great International Nursing Day.  It is said that the “Nurses are the heart of hospital” without their kind care and dedication no patient can survive… It is not only the medicine that gives the health back to the patients but more importantly it is the loving care of the kind nurses that bring back life into these patients.

 

On the auspicious occasion the students of Nurses Association of the Father Muller School & College of Nursing officially inaugurated the International Nursing day with a grand Cultural fest at the Academy Auditorium. The Formal programme commenced at 1.40 p.m. in the Academy Hall.

 

 

Invocation of blessings from the Almighty was made through a prayer song by the final year B.Sc Students. Ms. Melveena, Final year B.Sc Nursing Student, welcomed the gathering. Rev. Sr. Winnifred D’Souza, Principal, Father Muller College of Nursing &Mrs Jasmine Sarita Vas, Principal, Father Muller School of Nursing officially unfolded the theme of the cultural fest "UDAAN" which means to fly high & reach for the stars.

 

In her address to the nursing students Rev. Sr. Winnifred D’Souza advised the students to employ healthy competition and attitudes towards their fellow students not only during the cultural fest and even after the competitions.   Ms. Josvita Fernandes, SNA Advisor, Father Muller College of Nursing & Ms. Sharon Pais, SNA Advisor, Father Muller School of Nursing was also present on the dais.

 

On the occasion,a loads of mesmerizing cultural and literary competitions were held on Comedy Dance competition and solo singing competition and more competitions are being held on 9th May and the Valedictory function is being organized on 10th of May.  The results of all the winners will be published on this site on 10th May 2014 when the cultural program and competitions are completed.  All in all 9 batches participated in the cultural competitions held today and will continue until late tom evening and the valedictory function will be held on 10th May 2014.

 

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Jovita, II GNM student. Following the formal programme, the cultural competitions continued until 4.20 p.m.

 

The renowned Dr. Vivek Sakthidharan, Dept of Homeopathic Medicine andDr Lulu Sherif, Associate Professor, Dept of Anesthesiologywas the judges of the Day.
