Mangalore: Minister Ramanath Rai instructs officials to take early measures on Water Woes

Mangalore, 27 Apr 2014: The state and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Bantwal Ramanath Rai instructed the district officials to step up their efforts in providing drinking water to all the villages across the district at the wake of scarcity of water faced by a few villages.
Addressing the district officials during the meeting held at Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday April 26, the minister Ramanath said that the peak summer months are critical as a few villages face acute scarcity of water. He advised the officials to make arrangements in supplying drinking water by tankers or find some other sources. He also instructed the officials to prepare a proposal as the state administration intends to review multiple-villages drinking water project. The Tahsildars of respective Taluks that has such villages wherein the people are facing acute shortage of water had to prepare their report and forward to the state administration, advised minister Ramanath.
The load-shedding in rural villages has been a hindrance to supply drinking water. In case there is no proper pipeline network, it can be extended at the cost of district administration. Despite, DK district has lifeline river to draw water, the drinking water woes are being witnessed during April and May months, said minister Ramanath. He instructed the officials to consider this seriously in addressing the water woes of people.
The zilla panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni said that the tankers are supplying drinking water in the villages of Kotekar, Mennabettu, Kinnigoli, Konaje and Manjanady in Mangalore taluk; Sarapady and Kavalapadoor villages in Bantwal taluk, as they are severely hit by the shortage of water. The works to enhance underground water resources are underway, informed Maddineni.
