Mangalore: Konkani Teachers Annual Meet held in City

Mangalore, 9 Apr 2014: The mission to introduce Konkani in schools has been successful because of the sacrifices of Konkani teachers. There is lot to be done to fulfill the aspiration of teaching Konkani as third optional subject. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will continue its efforts to get the order from state administration to introduce Konkani in PUC, D Ed and B Ed. We hope that we get same support from state authorities in this regard, said Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Saldanha.
Roy was speaking during the annual meeting of Konkani teachers that was organized jointly by Konkani Prachar Sanchalan and Mandd Sobhann, at Eric Mathias auditorium of St Aloysius College, here on Tuesday April 8.
The late Jessy Castelino memorial Konkani teacher’s award was conferred on Irene L Sequeira, Konkani teacher of St Joseph’s School, Calvary Hill, Nantoor, here.
Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto, Konkani Education Institutions Association president Dr Mohan Pai and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy registrar Dr Devdas Pai were present on the dais.
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Stany Alvares welcomed the gathering, secretary Anil D’Cunha proposed vote of thanks. Lullus Cutinha compered the programme.
Rony Crasta conducted Konkani quiz in the morning session. Konkani poet Andrew L D’Cunha spoke on the need to study Konkani and its benefits.
Dr Devdas Pai and Vitori Karkal briefed on the preparations for the next academic year.
Bodlavann, Konkani skit was presented by the artistes of Kalaakul, lone Konkani theater repertory to conclude the programme.
