Udupi: Mandatory Voting - Electing Able Leaders will strengthen Nation; Marate

Udupi,6 Apr 2014: India is the largest democratic nation in the world, where the citizens choose the elected representatives by franchising their votes. Indian Constitution has given rare opportunity to each citizen to vote in village council, urban local bodies and of course, in the general elections of LS. The citizens are indirectly responsible for weakening the nation, by corruption, terrorism and social evils. Meanwhile, the voters can choose the ideal candidate who is patriotic, intelligent, has social concern, without falling victims of lure by the political parties, said Rotary Club International district Right to Information Committee president and thinker B Pundalika Marate Shirva.
Pundalika was the resource person speaking at the valedictory of mobile campaign themed ‘mandatory voting to strengthen democracy’ held from Kurkal to Shankarapura, near here on Saturday April 5. It was jointly organized by Udupi district administration, Election Commission, Kurkal gram panchayat and other social welfare and voluntary organizations.
Pundalike further said that when one observes the information of property disclosed by the candidates; it’s clear that there has been increase of crore of rupees in their assets from one election to the other. It’s indeed ill gotten money of tax payers and siphoned from other development projects. All the voters ought to cast their votes in the upcoming general elections on Thursday April 17 and also create general awareness among the voters in the locality, urged Pundalika.
Udupi taluk panchayat CEO Manjunatayya in his introductory address stressed on the significance of mandatory voting and also the measures undertaken by the district administration and Election Commission in this regard.
Adi Udupi School teacher Raghuram Kotian administered the voting oath.
Kurkal gram panchayat development officer Keshav Shettigar, Rotary Club International - Shankarapura president Denzel Castelino, youth leader Naveen Amin Shankarapura, Antony D’Sa, JCI president Sampat Suvarna, office bearers of different social welfare and voluntary organizations, general public were present on the occasion.
The programme was jointly organized by Kurkal gram panchayat RCI – Shankarapura, JCI – Shankarapura, Rotaract Club – Subash Nagar, Bharat Nirman Vedike – Kurkal, Spandana Samskrutika Vedike – Kunjarugiri, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala self-help-groups, Yuvaka Mandala, auto rickshaw owners Association – Subash Nagar, women organizations of Shankarapura, Anganawady teachers.
Kurkal gram panchayat president Satish Poojary compered the programme.
