Mumbai: Mumbaikar Kannadigas indeed promote Kannada more than Natives; Dr Mogasale

Mumbai, 6 Apr 2014: ‘I will first salute Kannadigas who are settled in the metro for promoting Kannada outside the homeland. I also duly acknowledge the role of Kannada department of Mumbai University in this regard. Mumbaikar Kannadigas indeed sustained Kannada and its distinct culture in the metro. I am a bit afraid to say that Kannadigas in homeland are hypocrites whose words and deeds are indifferent, said Mangalore’s veteran litterateur and intellectual Dr Na Mogasale.
Dr Mogasale was speaking after inaugurating birth centenary celebration of journalist Ahobala Shankar, book release and felicitation programme, held at J P Nayak auditorium, Kalina, Santacruz (East) here on Saturday April 5. It was jointly organized by Mumbai University department of Kannada, Suvarnagiri Prakashana – Mangalore and Narayanamruta Foundation – Mumbai.
The veteran poet and litterateur V Ga Nayak Mangalore presided the programme.
Nayak in his presidential address said that none of the universities in Karnataka have done so much in promoting Kannada like Kannada department of Mumbai University. Its nurturing the talent of Kannadigas to pursue M Phil, Ph D and publishing books authored by budding authors. It’s also significant that it has been doing all this in secular basis, said Nayak.
Mumbai University head of department of Kannada Dr G N Upadhya welcomed the gathering. Dr Poornima S Shetty, Vidushi Shyamala Prakash and Dr Jyoti Satish compered the programme. Veena Shastry presented the welcome song. Niranjan C S proposed vote of thanks.
