Udupi, 23 Mar 2014: The Moodubelle Unit of Stree Sanghattan and youth jointly observed Mothers’ Day on Sunday, 23 March 2014. Women members of Parish pastoral Council, Catholic Sabha, Franciscan Tertiary Order, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Stree Sanghattan and other parishioners as well as youth and children enthusiastically participated in the  programme.

Mothers, youth and children along with other parishioners participated in the Holy Mass offered by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes. The women and youth animated the liturgy and participated in the choir.

Besides highlighting the meaning of the scriptures of the day, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes in his homily stressed on the role of mothers’ in the family, community and society. He said that the mothers play an important role in building the character and personality of their children and giving them right guidance in their life.

Following the end of the mass, Miss Rinol Rodrigues spoke about the importance of the Mothers’ Day and called upon Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes to honour the eldest mother in the parish, Mrs. Veronica Saldanha who is 97 years old. The President of the Stree Sanghattan-Theresa Lobo, Secretary Wilma Rodrigues, Animator-Sr. Irene along with Fr. Joswey posed for a picture with Mrs. Veronica Saldanha.

Outside the church, women wished each other and exchanged the greetings. Youth and children also shared greetings with their mothers  making the Mothers’ Day a memorable one.

All those who attended the mass were served with sweets and soft drinks.

In general Mothers’ Day is being celebrated on the second Sunday of May or on the Fourth Sunday of Lent which is also known as Mothering Sunday.

Mothering Sunday was originally a time when people returned to the church in which they were baptized or where they attended services when they were children. This meant that families were reunited as adults returned to the towns and villages where they grew up. In time, it became customary for young people who were working as servants in large houses, to be given a holiday on Mothering Sunday. On this day children give presents, flowers, and home-made cards to their mothers as a token of thanks for their love and care.

God is merciful and in abundance! He showers mercy on us all. This function of Morther s day is a winderful and emotional tribute to all mothers. The spirit must live longer during their living time to put them in comforts. I could not because of my service away from home-away from Udupi. when my mother sufferred bed ridde, and died I did not wish to continue in that job which denied me the much promised transfer back to Udupi. I could only sacrifice TEN long years service say some lakhs,in terms of money, by protesting the management for not keeping up with their promise. I did not wiish to work under such a management. I am indeed proud of that. Now my Mother s Blessings has never failed. LOVE your mother not only by observing the day with faboulous and georgeous manner, as could be seen in picutes here, but in reality love your mother, during her living and make the love sublime, immortal.
