Udupi: Catholic Sabha, Moodubelle Unit to celebrate Silver Jubilee on 20 April 2014

Udupi, 22 March 2014: The Catholic Sabha, Moodubelle Unit will celebrate the Silver Jubilee of its constitution in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle on the Easter Sunday, 20 April 2014 with solemn Thanksgiving Mass at 8 am and stage cum cultural programme in the evening of the same day at 4.30 pm in the parish hall. The chief guest of the function will be Rev. Fr. Fred Mascarenhas-Dean of Udupi Deanery. Other guests of honour will include: Rev. Fr.  Ferdinand Gonsalves-Spiritual Director of the Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh, Mr. Elroy Kiran Crasta-Presdient of the Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh, Mr. Louis D’Almeida-President of the Catholic Sabha, Udupi Varado and Mr. Walter Cyril Pinto-Former President of Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh.

 

 

In the undivided Diocese of Mangalore, the Catholic Sabha was officially established on 29 April 1979 by the then Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Basil Salvadore D’Souza. The Catholic Sabha had been organized at the Central, Varado and parish  level with the aim of involving the lay people in the service of the society in one way or the other.

 

 

The Moodubelle Unit of the Catholic Sabha came into existence in 1988 when Rev. Fr. Herald Menezes was the parish priest. The founder president of the  Moodubelle Catholic Sabha Unit was Raphael Aranha and Ignatius Monis was the founder secretary. During the last twenty five years a number of eminent parishioners as office bearers have been leading the unit in various social, cultural and community activities.

 

Some of the important activities undertaken by the Catholic Sabha, Moodubelle Unit include: Financial help to students from economically disadvantaged families to continue higher education; promoting self-help groups in wards; helping in acquiring health cards; felicitating meritorious students to encourage them in studies; organizing blood donation drives; helping the needy in acquiring government facilities such as old age pension, widow’s pension, etc.; organizing various competitions such as elocution, drawing, acting for youth and children; organizing workshops with the help of resource persons to give information to the people on various government schemes and services;  participation in blood donation drive; helping youth from the parish to acquire employment; organizing important days such as Elders’ Day, Women’s Day, etc.; spreading awareness about the evils of alcoholism, etc.

The Silver Jubilee of the Catholic Sabha, Moodueblle Unit will be celebrated with the blessings of the Spiritual Director-Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, and under the leadership of President-Mrs. Helen D’Souza, Vice President-Henry Fernandes, Secretary-Mrs. Emilia Noronha and Treasurer-Mrs. Wilma Rodrigues.

 

The other committee members of the Moodubelle Unit of the Catholic Sabha include: Lancy Martis(Former President), Gracy Rebello(‘Amcho Sandesh Representative and next President), Matilda Quadros(Joint Secretary), Robert D’Souza(Joint Treasurer), Cyril D’Souza (Political Representative), Charles Quadros(Convener of Government Facilities) and Social Workers-Albert Martis, Ignatius Monis, Theresa Lobo, William D’Almeida and Anitha Mendonca.

 

 

All the past and present office bearers and members of the Catholic Sabha Unit of Moodubelle have been cordially invited to attend the Silver Jubilee function on Easter Sunday, 20 April 2014.

 

On the occasion of the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the Catholic Sabha, Moodubelle Unit, an appeal is being made to generous donors to contribute towards the expenditure of the celebration.  Amount may be sent directly to the  bank account given below.

As the Easter Edition of "Suvaad" is dedicated to the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Moodubelle Unit of the Catholic Sabha, well-wishers are requested to post their best wishes and advertizements in the "Suvaad". The advertizement rates are as follows:
