Lok Sabha elections: Karnataka to vote on April 17, counting on May 16

New Delhi, Mar 5, 2014 : The polling for the 16th Lok Sabha elections will be held in Karnataka on April 17, announced chief election commissioner V S Sampath on Wednesday March 5.


Announcing the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan, Sampath said that the polling for the elections will start from April 7 and conclude on May 12. The polling will be held on 9 days.


The counting will be held simultaneously across the nation on May 16.


He also announced that the election code of conduct will be enforced with immediate effect.


In some of the states like Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Assam and others, polling will be held in a phased manner on different dates. In Karnataka, the polling will be in a single phase on April 17.


Sampath said that this year, the total electorate is 814 million or 84.1 crore, which is approximately 10 crore more than the last general elections.


Camps will be set up on March 9 across 9 lac booths in the country for those who wish to enrol or check their names in electoral lists, he said.



Polling will be held in 543 constituencies on the following days:


Andhra Pradesh: April 30 and May 7
Arunachal Pradesh: April 9
Assam: April 7, 12 and 24
Bihar: April 10, 17, 24, 30, May 7 and 12
Chhattisgarh: April 10, 17, 24
Delhi: April 10
Goa: April 17
Gujarat: April 30
Jammu and Kashmir: April 10, 17, 24, 30 and May 7
Jharkhand: April 10, 17, 24
Karnataka: April 17
Kerala: April 10
Madhya Pradesh: April 10, 17, 24
Maharashtra: April 10, 17, 24
Manipur: April 9, 17
Meghalaya: April 9
Mizoram: April 9
Nagaland: April 9
Odisha: April 10, 17
Punjab: April 30
Rajasthan: April 17 and 24
Sikkim: April 12
Tamil Nadu: April 24
Tripura: April 7, 12
Haryana: April 10
Himachal Pradesh: May 7
Uttar Pradesh: votes over six days starting April 10 and ending May 12
Uttarakhand: May 7
West Bengal:  April 17, 24, 30, May 7 and 12
