Mumbai: Udayavani, Mangalore Bureau-Chief Manohar Prasad bags Karki Venkataramana Shastry Award

Mumbai, Feb 23, 2014 : The metro-based Havyaka Welfare Trust ® one among the most reputed social welfare organization announced the coveted Karki Venkataramana Shastry Soori Award – 2014 to Udayavani, Kannada daily Mangalore bureau-chief senior journalist Manohar Prasad.
The Award will be conferred by Havyaka Welfare Trust ® that will be celebrating its golden jubilee themed – Let us surge ahead with well cultured, at Dr M vishveshwarayya auditorium of Karnataka Sangha Mumbai ®, Matunga (West) here onSunday March 2.
Manohar Prasad is well known in journalism sphere. He has over four-decade experience in journalism in undivided Dakshina Kannada district. He has bagged Karnataka Rajyotsav Award in 2005 and has been felicitated by over 500 social welfare and voluntary organizations so far.
Manohar joined Udayavani, as a reporter during 1984, promoted as chief reporter and now works as Mangalore bureau-chief in Mangalore. He has bagged Dakshina Kannada district Rajyotsav Award, Canara Bank Achiever’s Award, Pals Journalism Award, Karnataka state Jaycees Youth Achiever Award, Sandesha Pratistan Extraordinary Achiever Award, Giants International Achiever Award etc. He also bagged Top PRO Award from Indian PRO Society, Mangalore – Manipal unit in 1998. He has gone on six-week study tour to Australia sponsored by Rotary Club International.
He has authored short stories in Kannada and anthology in Tulu. He has also penned poetry in both Kannada and Tulu. His Tulu novel bagged Udupi Tulu Koota Award. He has presented over 56 programmes in Mangalore Akashwani Kendra. He is also a theater artiste and known for selfless social service.
Havyaka Welfare Trust ® has instituted Shastry Award as memorial to his great contributions to Kannada literature in the late nineteenth century nine years ago. Accordingly, it has been conferring Award to one Kannadiga every year in recognition of his / her extraordinary service to Kannada literature, journalism and social work.
