Mangalore, 14 Feb 2014: Rachana, Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, submitted a memorandum to Air India Express (AIE) Mangalore station manger Nagesh Shetty, urging the AIE authorities to restore the services between Mangalore to Kuwait immediately.
AIE, India’s state-owned airline has officially wound-up its flight services between Mangalore and Kuwait on Thursday February 13. While this in itself is shocking news for the people of region, what they fail to understand, is how the said services can continue on the extant route of Kozhikode to Kuwait even as it bypasses a location that has thousands of passengers desirous of using the services from Mangalore to Kuwait.
AIE is the only airline that operates flight between Mangalore and Kuwait, servicing thousands of expatriates travelling from Kuwait to coastal Karnataka - from Bhatkal to Mangalore and northern parts of Kerala.
Rachana believes, AIE, as a state-owned airline has a social obligation to serve the thousands of citizens who travel from this region to Kuwait, and the existing flight services were indeed a boon to citizens of the coastal region. They also had a very positive impact on the economy of the region.
Suspension of the flight will have disastrous effects all around and urge AIE authorities to restore the services immediately. If these services are not restored, Rachana will be constrained to take the matter further, to ensure that the region and its people do not suffer on account on this sudden withdrawal of Mangalore - Kuwait flight services.
AIE station manager Nagesh Shetty assured that he will talk to his seniors and promised to look into the matter as soon as possible.
The copies of memorandum was forwarded to union civil aviation minister Ajit Singh, union transport and highways minister Oscar Fernandes and union petroleum minister Veerappa Moily.
Rachana president Ivan D’Souza, Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) president Louis Lobo, vice president Elias Sanctis, general secretary John Monteiro, Jessie Pinto, John Tauro, Flora Hislop, Anil Lobo, Oswald D’Cunha, Deepak Monteiro, Cyril D’Souza, Chennappa Gowda and others were present on the occasion.
