M’lore: Karavali Sri Sevalal Banjara (Lambani) Sangha ® organizes annual get-together in city

Mangalore, 13 Feb 2014: The city-based Karavali Sri Sevalal Banjara (Lambani) Sangha ® organized daylong workshop and annual get-together of Banjara community at St Sebastian mini hall, Bendore, here on Sunday February 9.
The state forests, ecology and Dakshina Kannada (DK) district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated the programme here on Sunday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister Ramanath said that the education empowerment of girl children will strengthen the family. Education will also help in eradicating superstitious beliefs in the society. Banjara is one of the backward communities which have been deprived of social justice. The community needs to be empowered economically and socially. Barriers come in the way of progress of any backward community in the caste dominated system. Reservations help the backward communities to come to the mainstream of the society, said minister Ramanath Rai.
The minister Ramanath further said that one should not infuse blind beliefs in the society in the name of God. The bettale seve (worshiping in the nude) should be banned completely, said minister Ramanath.
The minister Ramanath offered assurances of making all possible efforts to provide facilities to Banjara community including allocation of land towards construction of a community hall.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo said communities like Bajnara are facing difficulties in availing the government facilities meant for them.

MLA Lobo called upon the educated members in the community to create an awareness among the illiterates in the community on the available government schemes. Dependence on government facilities will not help to come up. Backward communities should give priority to education. More youth from the community should enrol themselves for higher education, said MLA Lobo.
The daylong workshop resource persons Dr Sannarama Naik and Dr N Hala Naik delivered talk the path treaded by Banjara community and the existing situation, vision for the prosperity of Banjara community respectively.
Karavali Sri Sevalal Banjara Sangha DK district president Jayappa Lamani presided the programme.
Akhila Bharatha Banjara Seva Sangha Karnataka state president Rama Naik, Kuvempu University Professor Dr Sannarama Naik, Udupi - MGM College principal Dr N Hala Naik and others were present on the occasion.
Chandu Naik welcomed the gathering. Dr Ramachandra Naik compered the programme.
