Mumbai: St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road to be Organizing Konkani Utsav from Feb 1

Mumbai, Feb 3, 2014 : St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association Mira Road will be organizing ‘Konkani Utsav’ at St Joseph’s parish grounds, Mira Road, here from Saturday February 15 to Sunday February 16. It was being organized to promote Konkani art and culture among the Konkani speaking people in the metro.
At the backdrop of Konkani culture and mother tongue Konkani is slowly fading away in the metro and surrounding areas due to many reasons, St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association Mira Road has organized ‘Konkani Utsav’ to encourage new generation of Konkans to take earnest interest in sustaining Konkani cultural hierarchy.
The renowned Konkani theatre artiste, playwright, director and famed comedy king Francis Fernandes Cassia will preside the programme.
The Konkani columnist and novelist H J Goveas function and Konkani activist Joy Paladka will be the chief guest.
Some of the main attractions of Konkani Utsav are:
• Display of the articles used by our fore fathers in their day to day use.
• Roce and wedding ceremony enactment (olden style)
• Mangalorean and Goan delicacies (Food Festival)
• Felicitation of Mumbai’s Konkani writers, actors, musicians and artistes.
• Colourful procession with famous brass band from Mangalore
• Skits, jokes and performances by artiste for different parts of Mumbai
• Special attraction – procession in and around Mira road with colourful Konkani folk-art.
• Display of olden things used by our ancestors.
• February 15 - reserved for Mira Road parishioners to showcase their talents
• February 16 - performances from All Mumbai Konkani Associations will be held.
• Dinner coupons are available with executive Committee and all members of the Association for both days.
