Mumbai, Jan 30, 2014 : ‘In my early years of theater in the metro, I was overwhelmed to act as the theater-lovers always encouraged the artistes.  The atmosphere was such that both the artistes and enthusiasts were equally collaborating for superb show.  The venues were jam-packed with audiences.  Meanwhile, now the situation has changed and there is dearth of audiences, because the new generation has disregard on culture and lack of pride in their mother tongue, said sandalwood movie producer and veteran theater personality Sadanand Suvarna.

 

 

Suvarna was the chief guest speaking during ‘Tulu – Kannadigas’ friendly-meet held at Bunts Centre, Juhi Nagar, Navi Mumbai, here on Sunday January 19 evening.  It was jointly organized by Kannada Kala Kendra – Mumbai and Bombay Bunts Association ®.


Swami Gurudevanand of Odiyoor mutt after inaugurating the programme said that Indians wherever they live, they practice their customs and traditions even at the distant lands.  If the mother tongue fostered, the culture also gets fillip.  Mumbaikars are better organizers and are truly fostering their native culture, said Swami Gurudevanand, elaborating on the splendor of Tulu and its distinct culture.


Bombay Bunts Association president advocate Ratnakar V Shetty presided the programme.


Kannada Sahitya Parishat Dakshina Kannada district president and Kalkura Pratistan president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, the renowned Yakshagana scholar and researcher Dr Raghav Nambiar, Nadabindu Chinmaya Mission – Kolwan director Pramodini Rao, Udaya Kalaniketana Sagar director S. Brahmachar were the guests of honor.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nambiar highlighted the walkathon that was embarked on by saint Adi Shankaracharya thrice from Kanyakumari to Himalaya to propagate Hinduism during eighth century.


Pramodini Rao and Brahmachar commended in fostering Tulu – Kannadiga culture among Mumbaikars’ in metro.


Advocate Ratnakar Shetty in his presidential address said that these kinds of programmes are indeed essential to promote patriotism and to groom new generation culturally.  The unity in diversity will bring peace and happiness, said Advocate Shetty.

The tenth show of ‘Sri Adi Shankaracharya’ Kannada play was presented by the artistes of Kannada Kala Kendra – Mumbai on the occasion.

 
Tulu – Kannadiga friendly meet organizing Committee honorary president Shyam N. Shetty welcomed the gathering.  Kala Kendra president B. Balachandra Rao delivered the introductory address.  S. Madhusudan and K. Malati compered the programme.  Nivedita A. Shetty proposed vote of thanks.
