M’lore: Dr Mohan Alva inaugurates Cottage Mela organized by CCIE in City

Mangalore, 7 Dec 2013 : Alvas Education Foundation ® chairman Dr M Mohan Alva inaugurated Cottage Mela that was organized by Bangalore-based Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE) of Bangalore at Hotel Woodland, here on Friday December 6 afternoon.  It’s open for general public from Friday December 6 to Sunday December 15 between 10.00am to 7.00pm.

 


 
 
The Mela provides an opportunity to behold the rich and varied art and craft traditions of India’s culturally enriched regions, providing a glimpse of their culture and a chance to exchange creative ties. The jewellery, art objects, paintings, metal ware, woodcraft, furniture, lamps, pottery, women’s wear, men’s wear, saris, shawls, accessories, dress fabrics, marble craft, herbal products and much more are on display at the Mela.


 
 
‘This concept provides a platform for the cultural and artistic interchange between artisans and visitors and an ideal method for the exchange of knowledge with each other. Several artists who are national and state awardees from various parts of India are participating in the event with their unique crafts from their respective regions,’ said CCIE assistant general manager S Mukherjee.


 
 
On display are exquisite dhokra brass craft, art furniture from Bastar Oriental Furniture from New Delhi, Worli art from Mumbai, fusion of Worli and Bastar art, Madhubani painting (wall hangings) from Bihar, lamps, lampshades, chimes, hand crafted wooden furniture, bronze and brass idols, cotton dhurries from Agra / Jaipur, semi-precious stone jewellery from Rajasthan and special attraction of hand knotted carpets.


 
 
In textiles the rich weaving tradition of India is represented in the wide range of handloom and cotton saris and dress materials – from Bihar and Rajasthan, Bagru print from Rajasthan, chikan embroidered kurtas from Lucknow, silk kurtas, jackets, silk scarves and silk ties to name a few.  Every item at the CCIE can be customized for corporate gifting.
